Bugs, Catalogs, and Miss America
October 12, 2007 — CarlaA few tidbits for your inner geek. And don’t pretend you don’t have one.
They can’t stop Vista from freezing up on me every 5 damn minutes but Microsoft made it a priority to fix an obscure computation bug in Excel 07. The fix addresses twelve incorrect results in the program. Thank God someone’s on the ball over there.
Our nominee for useful Web site of the week goes to Catalog Choice, a site that allows you to opt out of receiving catalogs you don’t want. At the top of my list: the New Braunfels Smokehouse and My Twinn doll, neither of which are a joke.
You gotta love it when the tech sites go old school. Check out 24 Things You Can Do With an Index Card at Web Worker Daily. My favorite: flick them at people at meetings.
And it wouldn’t be Sharp Skirts without a bemoaning of the state of the American woman. The Miss America organization has developed a kid-friendly browser that purports to protect kids from online dangers but ignores the fact that teaching young girls to tape their boobs and apply hemorrhoid cream under their eyes in order to appear more attractive to a panel of judges might be much more dangerous in the long run. I’ve lost my train of thought at this point. Read more about it at Jezebel and MSNBC, if you must.
