The Awards: Skinny, Fat, Smart, and Pretty

At the risk of too closely emulating TV Guide’s ‘Picks and Pans,’ we present to you the Sharp and the Shabby among us women-folk.

A Shabby Skirt to the Back in Skinny Jeans blog for its “Oprahfied” explanation of RSS feeds. According to Skinny Jeans, the only way women can understand a technical concept is if you change the acronym to something moronic and throw in pretty pictures. Yet another reason I don’t like Oprah – her audience is now synonymous with “dimwit.”

A Sharp Skirt to Jean Paul Gaultier for responding to the recent “models are too skinny” kerfuffle by sending a size-20 diva down the runway. via Gawker

Super Sharp Skirts to the all-female team that won Yahoo’s annual Hack Day contest. Diana Eng, Emily Albinski and Audrey Roy are living proof that chicks make the best geeks; could you guys maybe give Skinny Jeans a call?

And the Either Skirt Fits award goes to the Peruvian prison holding beauty pageants for incarcerated drug mules. I don’t know what to do with this. Life in a Peruvian prison can’t be too luxurious and any distraction for these exploited women is surely welcome. But couldn’t we teach them real-world skills instead? Something that might actually benefit them rather than perpetuate their exploitation? I suppose though that anything’s better than carrying heroin pellets up your business.
